The legs for the shave horse are made out of some small pieces of scrap pine. The horse will be a tripod – two legs under the seat and a wide third leg at the far end. The legs are 19″ long and are fitted at a 20 degree angle to the body.
The legs fit into the body of the horse with a tenon, but this is not glued or wedged in place; I wanted the legs to be removable so I can store the horse against a wall while it is not in use (garage space is at a premium!). The mortises for the back legs turned out to be a looser fit than I would like, so I simply glued some rails to link the legs. This increased the stability of the horse whilst still allowing the legs to be removed.
