Shelf for Roubo workbench

The minute I titled one of my recent posts ‘Completed Roubo workbench‘ I realised that, though very usable, it was not quite complete. Two things remain – a shelf and some dog holes. A shelf on the bottom of the bench adds weight to the bench and space to store a few appliances.

It was simply a case of screwing some 1 by 1 inch strips of wood to the inside of the stretchers to act as ledgers for the shelf pieces. The pieces are made out of 3/4 inch thick pine which are ship-lapped together using a rabbet plane as I have no means to make tongues and grooves.

Now just waiting for that Wonder Dog from Lee Valley to arrive…
